COVID-19 Crisis

Sciensano is responsible for the epidemiological surveillance of COVID-19. On the COVID-19 surveillance page, you can find the links to detailed and up-to-date epidemiological information: dynamic dashboard, daily, weekly and thematic reports, and open data.
The COVID-19 mortality page provides the links to up-to-date mortality information. Moreover, it presents an overview of the COVID-19 mortality in 2020. There were 19 588 COVID-19 deaths in 2020 representing a crude cumulative death rate of 1704 per million inhabitants. Meanwhile, the Be-MOMO estimated that 17 955 excess deaths (from all causes) occurred in 2020.
The COVID-19 impact page presents key results of the COVID-19 health surveys. Anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and attempts were higher during the crisis than in the health interview survey 2018, while life satisfaction and social support were decreasing. Access to healthcare and home care was impacted particularly during the first lockdown. Around 20% of the population saw their financial situation worsening during the crisis and 10% of the population worried that the food they bought would run out before being able to buy more.
